Fall Season 2010

October 16-17, 2010
U10 Academy Boys

The U10 Academy Boys played their best soccer to date this past weekend.  On Saturday the boys faced a quick and talented Croatian Eagles in a home match at Zaun.  The game was jam-packed with fast, aggressive play from one end of the field to the other in a very close game.  Two goals by Jack Orlowski and one by Hayden Hacker and the score was a close 4-3 in favor of the Croatian Eagles.  Brett Braaten scored a goal with only one minute left in play to tie the game 4-4.  Derek Ruona was a strong force in goal with smart goalkeeping judgment.  This game was all about team effort, passing and communication, showcasing some of the best soccer played by the boys this season!  While the game ended in a tie, it felt like a victory the way the boys played against such a strong team.

The boys are playing like a different team with renewed energy and enthusiasm.  The teamwork and passion will take us into a tough weekend with away games against Brookfield and Hartford.

On Sunday we played Northshore United in Cedarburg and the boys enjoyed their first shutout of the season in a 5-0 victory.  The training and conditioning worked on in every practice paid off as we had only one sub yet the boys played hard and moved the ball well.  Goals by Hayden Hacker, Brett Braaten, Carson Chopp and Alex Huibregtse combined with excellent goalkeeping by Brandon Pegelow and aggressive pursuing and passing by forwards Nathan Wegner and Tanner Garbisch made this a rewarding team victory!

U8 Comets
The GSC U8 Comets played great games against the Astros this weekend.  On Coach Carsten’s half of the team, they tied both games 1-1.  Harrison and Noah were the counted goals while Miranda had a great attempt that was “in” and then bounced out and was not counted.  Eva and Ben were great defensive players and Ben had a great header in the second game.  Micah had great blocks and was in the right place at the right time.  On Coach Jason’s half of the team, they won both games 3-0 and 4-0.  Benjamin, Gabriel, and Cole each scored a goal in both of the games and Grace added to them in the second game.  Julia was a great defender while Aaron was the fastest on the field and always where he was supposed to be.  Great job, Comets, playing together this weekend!!!!

Grafton Ranger Girls U10 Academy vs North Shore United
Saturday 10/16/10
We played at Harris Bank Fields and pretty much opened the game on fire. We played good soccer all the way to the finish. We ended with a huge Ranger win, game 10-1.

Grafton Ranger Girls U10 Academy vs Pewaukee Galaxy
Sunday 10/17/10
Our Ranger ladies took a road trip to Pewaukee Sunday afternoon and were ready to keep the train rolling. We had an excellent first half of soccer with big offensive production on goals by Payton Riddle, Corbin Woessner (Hailey Block assist), Hailey Block, Hailey Block (Payton Riddle assist), 4-0 us. The second half we added to our total with goals by Kaitlyn Wegner, and rocket foot Payton Riddle.  6-0 us final. Those are just some of the girls who contributed offensively, but the defensive play has been incredible all season. Karsen Wise, Ava Peterson, Hailey Block, Jaden Autey, and several others help anchor our "D" weekly and are getting very comfortable receiving and advancing balls ahead and transition passing into our offense. Our development is seen by all the parents weekly and they are very excited. A couple weeks left! Let’s finish strong!         ~Coach Steve
