Spring 2010 Season

U11 Girls Season Wrap Up

The U11 Girls Rangers team finished their spring season this past Saturday with a 5 to 2 win against FC Milwaukee Menomonee Falls.  In a true case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the girls role of Mr. Hyde showed up for this match.  Playing in what looked to be some of their finest form of the season, the girls had no trouble dispatching their opponent.

The girls ended the season 7-0-1 in league, taking first place in the SECL C East division of state league.  The results from the two tournaments the girls played in this spring were a record of 2-1-0 at Reddan (losing to Pewaukee United, the eventual champion, 3 to 2), and 3-1-0 at the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin A|B Select (losing to Mequon United White, who took second place, 2 to 0).  This means the girls overall record for the spring is an OUTSTANDING 12-2-1.

Congratulations girls.  Fantastic job this spring!

The Rangers U13 boys blue team ended their season this past Memorial Day weekend in Shaumburg, Illinois. They competed in the Grove United Tournament at the Olympic Fields. A beautiful turf complex, beautiful weather (most of the weekend) and quality play by the Rangers made for an exciting weekend. The boys did very well in the group stage and advanced to the final due to the team only giving up one goal in the 3 games. The Rangers defeated all 3 teams during group play scoring 11 goals and only giving up 1. In the championship game the boys came up on the wrong side of a 1-0 game and placed second. It was great to see how the boys started to become a team and it showed in their level of play. We are all proud to be RANGERS!

Their battle cry.... H.P.D BABY!!!!!

U9 Girls Kohl's Tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park, 5/7/10-5/8/10

Game #1 Grafton U-9 Girls Rangers played against the Germantown Eagles U-9 Girls and had two first half goals. One by Laura Stockhausen and Hailey Block added another. Goalie Lizzy Heil with Karsen Wise, Corbin Woessner and Kaitlyn Wegner at defense held our opponent scoreless. The second half was a battle up and down the field, goalie Aleia Olsen stopped a couple shots on goal and our ladies came away with a 2-0 win.

Game #2 Grafton U-9 Girls Rangers played against the New Berlin Leopards Girls. The game was back and forth until Laura Stockhausen sent a laser pass up the middle to Aspen Goad and with the finish we led at half 1-0. The second half we were in the zone and with bullet shots by Payton Riddle, Karsen Wise (2), Laura Stockhausen and Hailey Block, we finished 6-0. The defense was anchored by Ava Pederson.

Game #3 Grafton U-9 Girls Rangers played against the New Berlin Jaguars Girls. The first half was all Jaguars 2-0 with a couple break downs defensively. We pulled it together in the second defensively but our offense only managed one late goal by Hailey Block. 2-1 Jag's.

On May 8, the Grafton Rangers U13 blue team took on Germantown in their second game of league play. Grafton dominated from the beginning to the end, not allowing Germantown to penetrate through the defense while maintaining constant pressure on the goal.  The defense was key to the attack. They may not get the press or make many of the top ten plays on ESPN, but were deserving of game balls. Our defense, Ben Lorge, Dominick Rome, Will Skalecki, Jamison Soya, Noah Semmann and our keeper Jeffrey Frankard all were solid in the victory.  Scoring goals for the Rangers were Jose Reyes, Adam Huibregtse, Jake Demerath and Bradd Lemke. The Rangers have found that a little (H.P.D. baby) goes along way.  Coach Arnold

The U11 Girls Rangers team played in the Froedtert & the Medical College of WI A/B Select Tournament over the weekend of April 30 to May 2. The girls had an easy time in bracket play, scoring 10 goals, and only allowing 2 against.  Caitlin Kugi, Hailey Hacker, Haleigh Bares, and Chloe Doring were among the consistent goal scorers for the squad.  The “Iron Curtain” defense was made up of the combination of Kayla Kulczyski, Kennedy Izzard, Morgan Wallace, and Abbi Gutknecht.  The girls ran into arch-rival Mequon White in the semi-finals, and ran out of steam against the eventual Runner-Up in the U11 Girls B bracket. Congrats girls on a well played tournament.

Grafton Rangers U12 Boys took first place in the Froedtert & The Medical College of WI A/B Select Tournament held at Uihlein Park on April 30th, May 1st and May 2nd.

RANGERS U 13 Blue team- The Rangers were in action this past weekend at the Uihlein A/B Select tournament and found their way to the award stand, finishing 2nd.

During group play the boys found themselves on the bad end of a 1-0 loss vs. Cedarburg in game 1. The boys played well, hitting the cross bar early in the game and having one cleared off the line.   In game 2 the opponent was Germantown and the RANGERS picked up their level and won 4-0. Alex Diets scored a great goal from the top of the box after receiving a long diagonal pass from Adam Huibregtse. Adam added a beautiful volley off a perfect corner from Connor Kugi. Alec Weinhold's determination proved to be to much for Germantown as he broke through the defense and slid to knock it by the keeper. The last goal was scored by Daniel King on a breakaway, Daniel showed composure as he calmly slid the shot by the keeper.  Game 3 proved to be a thriller, as Sheboygan and the boys went toe to toe in a exciting 1-1 tie. Nick DeFlorentiis was able to get a toe poke to beat the keeper on a cross from Daniel King.   The RANGERS have elevated their play the past couple of weeks as they are beginning to believe in a little (H. P .D. baby)   ~Coach Arnold

Grafton U-9 Girls Academy vs Mequon U-9 Girls Academy  5/2/10

On Sunday our U-9 girls took on our arch rivals to the south (Mequon) at Rotary Park. The first half was a defensive battle on both ends of the field, but Mequon managed two late half goals leaving us down 2-0 at the half. The second half was again a battle back and forth until 10 minutes in, when Ava Peterson threaded the needle with a pass between two defenders up field to Hailey Block and with a nice finish we were down 2-1. Mequon had several offensive opportunities as well in the second half but our defense led by Laura Stockhausen and Corbin Woessner and goalie Karsen Wise denied any scoring attempt.  With time running out and fine offensive play we couldn't get the ball past Mequon's keeper. End 2-1. Great effort!   Coach Steve

U-9 GIRLS ACADEMY VS. BROOKFIELD GIRLS ACADEMY A
SAT. 4-24-10 / WEATHER:44 & RAIN / LOCATION: BROOKFIELD

I WILL NOT GET INTO THE PLAY BY PLAY OF OUR FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON WHICH WE PLAYED TO A 3-3 TIE AGAINST BROOKFIELD. INSTEAD I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU PART OF A POST GAME SUMMARY SENT OUT TO TEAM FAMILIES AFTER. AS COACH, THIS GAME IS PROOF THAT THE TIME YOU PUT IN WILL PAY OFF, AS THE GIRLS TOOK IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL AS A TEAM.

Just wanted to send an e-mail out to all families and let you know how proud I am of the girls play today as a team. Hopefully you noticed the improvement from the fall season.

There was not just 1 or 2 players stepping up. We had big goalie play from Aleia and Laura in tough rainy conditions, and 3 goals from 3 different players. From a coach's stand point, many other basic fundamentals are starting to develop and were observed today that resulted in terrific play by all. They included spacing (maintaining position), strong accurate kicks (passes/shots), clearing the ball ahead by defenders, and the girls' ability to get the ball to right-left midfield or into open field. Lastly, everyone was very aggressive defensively, challenging and attacking the ball today for the entire game. What a great game!

Thanks,
Coach Steve

The Grafton Ranger U13 A boys played a State Cup play in game Saturday April 24th. The game itself was a hard fought battle, with the Rangers coming back twice from being a goal down.  Unfortunately the boys came up a bit short losing in OT 3-2. The Rangers played with a lot of Heart*Passion*Desire and left everything out on the field. Joseph Reyes and Jake Demerath scored for the Rangers and Noah Semmann had an assist.

The U-13 Grafton Rangers White played on the new turf field in Wauwatosa on Saturday, April 24 for our first league game. We struggled getting used to the new field in the beginning, but came out strong in the second half.  The boys won the first game of the season with a score of 3-1! Coach Kevin

U10 Jets Even though the Jets lost 9-0, the goal keeping and team effort were great.~Coach Mark Micoliczyk

U12 Hurricanes The Hurricanes were short key players and only had 1 sub.  The team had great ball control, energy, and played hard all game in a nail biting  2-1 victory.  Exciting game! ~Coach Mark Micoliczyk

This weekend the U13 Grafton Rangers White team battled a good team from Racine. We lost 1-3. Our starting goalie was not there for the second straight game, which didn't help. We scored first, however, and had a lot of great chances. The game could have gone either way and just did not go in our favor. ~Coach Kevin
