GSC U8 Comets
The GSC U8 Comets were excited to start their spring season this past weekend. Everyone showed teamwork, communication, and passion for the game. It is great to see the energy and enthusiasm to play soccer each practice and game. We will continue to work on our passing, dribbling, and shooting. Good job Comets!!!
U10 Rangers Academy
On Saturday, May 7th the U10 Rangers Academy played North Shore United Academy at Zaun. The boys started off slowly but soon they set the pace of the game with some quick passes that dominated over North Shore United.
Hayden Hacker, Brett Braaten, Carson Chopp and Nathan Wagner were outsized by some big North Shore defenders, but they never backed away from the physical play and their persistence earned Hayden a hat-trick and Brett two goals with excellent team work and assists by Carson and Nathan. Alex Huibregtse did a great job shoring up the midfield and controlling play out of the back and he scored a goal from a beautiful corner kick. Excellent corner kicks by Alex and Jack Orlowski contributed to more scoring opportunities. Josh Fonder and Brandon Pegelow were strong as always at defense and worked hard to provide great service to the forwards rather than just clearing the ball out of the back. Josh did a great job getting forward in the attack and earned a goal. Derek Ruona had another solid game in goal that may have been a little boring at times but he came up big and made some great saves when called upon.
The Rangers were victorious over North Shore United with a score of 8-1. The boys continue to play aggressive and physical soccer and capitalize on their opponent’s defensive miscues. The Rangers are participating in the Kohl’s tournament this coming weekend at Uihlein and we anticipate some good competition with academy teams from Racine and Allouez. The boys are growing and learning to play smarter soccer with every game.
U10 Girls Academy vs Mequon U10 Girls Academy
Finally, after being rained out for the Madison Tourney in April and our home opener last week, we at last get to play some soccer. We played at Zaun Field on Saturday, May 7, against our rival to the south - Mequon which is always a battle from start to finish. Mequon was the first one to strike during the 5 minute, but our offense struck back with two goals in the next 5 minutes--one by Kaitlyn Wagner, another by Laura Stockhausen. Payton Riddle added the 3rd before the half and the score, us 3-1. Mequon came roaring back to begin the second half with back to back goals, splitting our defenders score 3-3. Then our center mid Hailey Block hit the back of the next with a laser, and Kaitlyn Wagner added her second goal of the day 5-3. Mequon managed one last goal before the final whistle 5-4 Grafton. Very good defensive effort against a strong Mequon team by Karsen Wise, Ava Pederson, and Jade Autey. Great job goalies Corbin Woessner, Abbie Schad!
U10 Girls Academy vs Pewaukee Galaxy U10 Girls
We traveled to Pewaukee with terrific weather on Mother’s Day. The first half was filled with terrific and exciting play with Grafton scoring first, Kaitlyn Wagner from a nice pass by Laura Stockhausen. Hailey Block and Hannah Hacker also scored in the first half, but both scoring strikes were answered with Pewaukee goals. We led the half 3-2. The second half our Grafton girls started capitalizing on every opportunity. They all had the complete package including great passing, shooting, defense, goal keeping. We scored 4 second half goals, Kaitlyn Wagner had 2, Laura Stockhausen and Corbin Woessner each had one . Our defensive play shut out Pewaukee in the second half. Grafton 7-2.
Great way to start off the spring season! The level of play and team work is definitely noticed on the field. Coach Steve, U10 Girls Academy
U11 Ranger Girls
The Grafton Rangers U11 girls took 1st place in the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin tournament this past weekend 5/6 - 5/8! The tournament started on Friday night with a 3-0 win against NS Arsenal. Mindy Dickman recorded the shutout with Alyssa Jobe also playing keeper in the 2nd half. Saturday’s game saw the girls take a step back and lose two leads in a 4-2 loss to Whitefish Bay. Goals were scored by Alyssa Jobe and Sara Zimmerman. The girls came back Sunday with a 2-1 win with 4 minutes left in the game against the host team MK United. Goals were scored by Charmaine Dee and Jordan Hurley. The win coupled with Whitefish Bay losing caused the Grafton Rangers to take 1st place and win the tournament!! Coach Craig
U12 Ranger Girls
After a canceled tournament and two canceled league games, the Grafton U12 Ranger Girls kicked off their outdoor season with a home game against Brookfield White. Moving up to the "A" division for the spring season we knew would be a great challenge for the girls. The girls started out strong, getting on the board first with a goal by Makenna Race, assisted by a beautiful pass to the center from Caitlin Kugi. Brookfield came back quickly to tie it, but Grafton went ahead again with a goal by Hailey Hacker, assisted by Megan Barian.
It was back and forth all game with neither team leading by more than one goal. Grafton capitalized on a corner kick opportunity, with Maria Olsen volleying the ball in the back of the net off a perfect corner kick from Caitlin Kugi. Grafton ahead 3-2. Brookfield came back with two goals to make it 4-3 and ended up holding on to that lead, despite several opportunities from Grafton. Great goaltending by Brianna Schnell kept this a close game throughout. Despite the loss, the girls played extremely well and should be looking forward to a great season.
U12 Ranger Boys
The U12 boys FINALLY got to play some soccer this past weekend. What better way to do that than to cram 4 games into 3 days. Playing on the new turf field at Uihlein Soccer Park under the lights on Friday night, the boys started out with a 6 to 0 win over North Shore United Red, a team the boys will face again in league play on June 1. Solid play from Ben Hughes and smart defensive play from Tyler Otto, Carson Klaus, Matt Orlowski, and others left little doubt who the superior team was on the field. Grafton was even honored with a rare goal from defender Tyler Otto. Long live the hair.
Facing an unfamiliar opponent in MK Alliance Black Grafton didn’t miss a step. Playing with brooding confidence, and a “swagger” not before seen by many of the fans, Grafton came out on top winning 3 to 1. Sam Huibregtse, Ryan Balsewicz and Quinton Riddle anchored a midfield that Alliance couldn’t figure out.
Bright and early Sunday morning opened at 8 am against MK Southeast Swarm. Swagger was again the theme for the game. Patrick Stilb and Brian Holdmann each scoring 2 goals, Patrick with what might be the team’s goal for the tournament, and Patrick and Brian combining for the teamwork goal of the tournament. Adding to the final total of 9 to 0 were Tyler Otto and Quinton Riddle with header goals.
Game 4 of the weekend was the Championship against the Oregon Pumas, a team that had similar results through their half of the bracket. The Ranger boys seemed nervous, a feeling that was compounded by the late arrival of referees. Between the nervousness and the delay, the boys had lost their swagger. Despite a strong performance from Noah Chopp in the goal (at one point flying through the air to save a shot that was certain to find its way to the upper right corner of the net), the Ranger boys lost 3 to 0. Great job this weekend boys, an excellent start to a very busy spring season that will span the next 5 weeks.
U13 Ranger Boys
Congratulations to U13 Rangers for taking 2nd place in the MK A/B Select Tournament this past weekend. Fantastic performance by all players throughout the games! With excellent goal keeping, fantastic defense, great distribution from midfield, and super finishing from our forwards; our Rangers managed to shut down the opponents while scoring 8 goals in the first 3 games of the tournament against State league 1st and 2nd division teams prior to the championship game. Our Rangers played consistently well and proved to themselves and to their fans that they can belong in the State First Division. Although all players have stepped up their games, a couple of our player made giant leaps in their performances this weekend. On behalf of our Rangers, I would like to THANK all parents, families, and friends of the players who have become FANS of our Rangers and cheering for the team on the side lines. We look forward to seeing all of you and more of your family, other Rangers, and friends at the next game. Come and see us play, you will like what you see.
Coach Farhad
U14 Ranger Boys Blue
The Ranger U-14 boys Blue team started the season off with a bang.
On Saturday they defeated Appleton Blitz 3-0 at Zaun to kick off league play in the Division 2 of the State league. Scoring goals for the Rangers were Adam H. assisted by Brendan L., Jake D. assisted by Jan H., and Joseph R. assisted by Adam H. The defense was solid, not giving many opportunities to Appleton.
Sunday was the day......STATE CUP PLAY IN GAME!!! You win and you’re in, you lose and you go home. The Rangers did not disappoint on a beautiful Mother’s Day with a HUGE 3-1 win against a tough PVYSC team. Adam H. started the scoring with a great through ball from Brendan L., Jack B. followed with a volley shot from Jake D. and Jake D. scored from the top of the box to finish off the scoring. Jeffery F. and the defense did a solid job to secure the big win. This victory enables the Rangers to play for the chance to be State Champions during the Memorial Day weekend. Wish them luck!!!!
